Crime at the Guggenheim Part 3 The Adoption Murder

2 Years later…

Isabella was always sad that her parents got killed. At least she was alive. No one had adopted her yet but she waited and waited. She didn't like being in the home for girls because the food was disgusting
the bed was not comfortable everything was horrid. She was always moaning around without doing anything.
But she had friends. They were very nice to her. Their parents were also killed.

The day when a man came to take Isabella home she was disappointed. His face was grey with a pale face.
The man grabbed her hand and put her in the car. At least in his house the food was yummy. The rest was horrible.

But one night Isabella said goodnight to him and he went away to the street. It was a mystery. He was going directly to the Guggenheim!

Isabella went on her bicycle as fast as she could. He was going to kill the staff that were inside so that he could get all of the money. Meanwhile at prison the police were looking at the two girls that were with Bill.
He had gone! The police searched everywhere until they saw Isabella. They asked her if Bill was somewhere
But she didn't know.
They looked in every corner of the Guggenheim. They found him. After that they took of the mask and… It was Bill as usual. He had escaped lots of times but how?
Isabella had said to the police two years before, "Please make it dark and close all the doors," but how could he escape? The police showed Isabella some nice parents to take care of her.

But the mysteries of the Guggenheim will never end...

Crime at the Guggenheim Part 2 The escape

Five years later…

Isabella and her family decided to live in Bilbao but there might be some problems. Bill Gates was still in prison with the two annoying girls saying Help Help! That gave Bill a head ache.

Isabella went to school very happy but some people were nasty to her. Her parents went to work at a shoe shop and someone was stealing shoes from the store. The shoes cost 1889 euros because some are golden.
The parents had to close the shoe shop because they were stealing and stealing…

So they went to work at the Guggenheim. But someone kept on stealing things.
SO they went to work at a sweet shop. It was NOT peaceful there.
Children were moaning babies, were crying, adult were saying NO NO NO!
It was a total chaos.
But one day Isabella saw a black man from the school window. And he was going directly
to the sweet shop. He had a bottle of… poison! He was going to poison the sweets and give them to the Guggenheim staff so that they die!
She asked the teacher if she could go to the sweet shop where her parents worked and she said yes she could. She went rushing there like a mad man.

Isabella looked through the window and her parents were not there. Instead she saw the black man! He was putting the poison on the sweets! He grabbed all of the sweets and he took them to the Guggenheim!
Isabella followed him every single step.

Isabella saw her parents in front of the Guggenheim and the man gave the sweets to them. She needed to go and save them now or they will die! She couldn't run very fast so her parents gobbled them all up! Isabella saw her parents still and they dropped on the floor!

She went directly to the black man and took the mask off.
It was Bill Gates! He had escapes from prison to poison people. Now her parents were dead!
She got her mum's phone and called the police! This time she told the police to close everything so
that it's all dark. Isabella couldn't stop crying. They took her to the home for girls so that she could
stay there until someone adopted her.

The End

The Adventures of Lilac Blue

Chapter 1: The Strange Discoveries

I’m flying my giant phoenix through Paradise Alley, in Paradise Alley it’s not REALLY like PARADISE. I parked my phoenix and walked through a gate. I am in search of four statues in four different galaxies far away from the Milky Way; these are all the galaxies I need to go to:
  • Paradise Alley (well, I have already arrived there),
  • Tackle Moscle,
  • Moss Powder Colonies and
  • Mysterious Technology.
Right now I've just entered the entry gate of Paradise Alley where I bumped into this fierce guard I had already seen before while travelling from the Milky Way to Paradise Alley.
When I had seen him he was running in his tiny car full of treasure he had robbed and after him were space police with an alerting siren. Then I realised that the guard was DRESSED as a guard but was a ROBBER! I tried to tell the other guards and the police but they wouldn't even budge listening. So I decided that if they wouldn't do anything I’ll do everything I can and who knows if the robber was going to steal the secret statue of Paradise Alley and so I will try to get the statue.

"Now, I’ll need to fight and find the statue!’’ I told myself. I asked a few people where the armour shops are and half of the people that I asked said they didn’t know and the other half knew. I walked inside the shop that said 'armour boutique'.

I bought myself a sword, a gun, some powder, some bullets, an old shield and a dagger. I thought that I had too little armour and I wouldn’t spend too much of money just on armour, would I?

Next I went to a grocery store to buy food for dinner and supper. I forgot to tell you that in Paradise Alley there are so many traps for security and it does not really make sense, for example: an ambulance is running in emergency with the siren on loud and the trap catches the ambulance and the ambulance is 30 minutes late for whatever emergency it was going to!

So I had to be careful while walking in the crowded city. I started looking somewhere else and with a sudden THUD I fell into a trap. It was very strange because there were no security guard like there usually is, and in Paradise Alley it’s a political law that if a guard is off duty when it has to guard in the trap the guard is going to go to prison for 1 year.

Then I saw a mysterious round rock patterned with carved sphinx on flowers and I looked on the other side and I saw a great big hollow circle, around the circle there was some kind of ancient writing. So I worked out what to do. But I heard a noise and saw the same robber as I before!

I hurried up and lifted the heavy circle but it was too late and the robber grabbed the circle and ran towards the hollow circle. I found my chance and punched hard on his face and grabbed back the circle and put the circle into the hollow circle and the circle turned round so the wall split up in half and with a screeching noise the door opened. To my delight I finally found the great statue!

The statue is called the Golden Cat of Paradise!

Rolling like Galileo

Year 4 and Year 9 students work together to recreate Galileo's experiment:

Here are our results, averaged out:

We still haven't got the same results as Galileo, who said the time in the last column should be the same for each step.

It could be something like what's shown in this video:

Science work with Year 9

Year 9 have been learning about falling objects in their science lessons too, so this morning, on the last day of term, Year 4 went over to Secondary to share our learning and do some experiments together.

Thank you Mr Faure and all of Year 9!
The more accurate results of our rolling experiment will follow.

Patterns in squares

Thank you Clara for putting some maths onto the blog! Square numbers!

We had a look at patterns of squares using Cuisenaire rods.

At first it wasn't so simple. We were getting a lot of almost squares. Look at this one, created on the Cuisenaire Environment -

At first it fooled a lot of us! Can you see why it's not a square?

Not all of them are square numbers, but a lot of interesting patterns emerged worth following up.

Can you think of a mathematical question about one of these shapes?

My Square Numbers

Here are my square numbers:

1 x 1 = 1                   11 x 11 = 121                        21 x 21 = 441                        31 x 31 = 961

2 x 2 = 4                   12 x 12 = 144                        22 x 22 = 484                        32 x 32 = 1,024

3 x 3 = 9                   13 x 13 = 169                        23 x 23 = 529                        33 x 33 = 1,089

4 x 4 = 16                 14 x 14 = 196                        24 x 24 = 576                       34 x 34 = 1,156

5 x 5 = 25                 15 x 15 = 225                        25 x 25 = 625                        35 x 35 = 1,225

6 x 6 = 36                  16 x 16 = 256                        26 x 26 = 676                       36 x 36 = 1,296

7 x 7 = 49                  17 x 17 =  289                       27 x 27 = 729                       37 X 37 = 1,369

8 x 8 = 64                  18 x 18 = 324                        28 x 28 = 784                       38 x 38 =  1,444

9 x 9 = 81                  19 x 19 = 361                        29 x 29 = 841                       39 x 39 = 1,521

10 x 10 = 100            20 x 20 = 400                        30 x 30 = 900                       40 X 40 = 1,600

Christmas Concert

Well done all those elves - and Santa! - for great performances at the Christmas Concert!

And here''s Must be Santa:

Thanks to Mrs Presset for the video.

What a great bunch of elves!

Rolling like Galileo

After Galileo was put under house arrest, he returned to some of his earlier science work. In particular, he looked at the way things fall.

We looked at this video that told us about this:

There was lots of interesting vocabulary, quite difficult for Year 4, so we had a look at a Padlet wall of words to help understand some of it.

Galileo had found, for the first time, that there was a pattern of numbers in the way things fall: the odd numbers - 1,3,5,7...

The ball was speeding up all the time:

We are beginning to try to reproduce Galileo's experiment in the classroom.

What's this? Duplo? What's that got to do with it??

Well, the Duplo was holding our slope up.

We had to try different heights of Duplo to get a slow and even run of the ball.

This worked:

Time to time the run.

These are our times. On the left is the additional distance travelled, on the right the time from the start.

Here they are in a neater table:

Hmmm... This is not what Galileo predicted. He said that the numbers in the yellow column should be the same. But for us the ball was not speeding up as much as Galileo said it should be!

What could be wrong? Any ideas?
